FUE Hair Transplant Procedure
FUE Hair Transplants are performed at North Bristol Private Hospital, meaning that patients in Bristol and the south west no longer need to travel to London for the procedure. Here is what to expect if you have a FUE Hair Transplant.
During the surgery, small circular incisions are made around each follicle unit to separate it from the surrounding tissue. Each unit is extracted from the scalp, leaving a tiny, open hole. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia, making it almost painless.
Depending upon how much hair the transplant surgeon deems necessary for the hair restoration to be successful, the process is repeated. This can take anything from a couple of hours, to a couple of days for larger sessions.Â
The holes left behind from the extractions are tiny, at just 1mm in diameter, and usually take a week to ten days to completely heal. Once the holes have healed, all you see are barely visible white scars buried in the hair at the back and sides of the scalp.
On the day of the procedure we trim the hair using a zero-trimmer and mark the head of the patient. The patient is then given a local anaesthetic injection.Â
The grafts for the forelock, crown and head are taken from the lower back of the scalp using a manual or motorized punch. The grafts for the front hairline are taken from the upper area at the back of the scalp. The grafts are placed in a Petri dish and separated into singles hairs, doubles and triples. The singles are used for the front hairline and the rest are used for the forelock, crown and rest of the head.Â
The Hair Surgeon makes multiple tiny incisions for the grafts to be implanted by forceps. The whole procedure takes approximately eight to twelve hours depending upon the number of grafts. Post op instructions are provided after the procedure, and the patient is reviewed at one month, three months, six months, and twelve months post procedure.Â
Is FUE Hair Transplant The Right Procedure For You?
Scarring after the FUE Hair Transplant procedure is minimal. So those wishing to wear their hair short might find this method advantageous. The same holds true for those who wish to resume physical activities such as sports, as soon as possible after surgery, or who have a poorly healed scalp from undergoing other transplant methods.
It’s important to be aware that the entire donor area must be shaved if a patient is undergoing a large session of FUE. There may be some people who find this problematic from an aesthetic standpoint. But it’s important to remember that this will be a short-term concern, and in exchange you get a long-term solution to your hair loss.
Five Reasons to Consider Hair Transplant Surgery
Hair transplant surgery has developed into a popular and safe procedure that many people with hair loss issues turn to. Below are five reasons why it might be beneficial:
1. Long term results
The grafting that occurs during hair transplant surgery allows hair to grow naturally in that area for years to come.
2. It is your own hair on your own head
While there are other options for those who have lost some, or all of their hair, such as wigs or micropigmentation, hair transplant surgery encourages your own hair to grow back naturally.
3. Safe and effective for people of all ages
Hair loss can start as early as your teens. There are also a number of genetic disorders and conditions that can cause young people to lose their hair too. Hair transplant surgery has been known to correct some of these conditions so that they never occur again.
4. Your confidence will be boosted
Everybody deserves to feel good about themselves. And like it or not, how we look can have a profound effect upon how we feel. If you’re experiencing hair loss and your confidence has taken a knock, transplant surgery will help restore your hair and give your self-esteem a boost.
5. Success rates are sky high
Thanks to advances in medical procedures and the brilliance of today’s dedicated medical professionals, hair transplants have an amazing track record. Today, there are millions of satisfied hair transplant customers all over the world. Safe and with no serious side-effects, don’t you want to discover what a hair transplant could do for you?
